Where does your freedom come from?

July 4th is more than cookouts, gatherings, and fireworks.  It’s a day set apart to celebrate America’s Independence and freedom. We are blessed to live in this great nation and enjoy our freedom. A freedom that we should cherish and not take for granted. Remember to give thanks to God for freedom that gives us hope, inspires us to be better people and reminds us of those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom.

There’s another kind of freedom, our salvation. A gift that is free to those who accept it.  But a gift that was paid with a price.

1 Peter 1:18-19

“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors,  but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”

We are redeemed by the blood of Christ.

Eternal salvation is not something one can purchase with money or good works.  It’s a gift from God.

Romans 6:23

“ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Our salvation is a gift.

In today’s society many people are living in spiritual slavery and don’t even realize it.  We spend our time chasing “The American Dream”, social media, money, fame, success, love. Only to be left empty.

Galatians 5:1

“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.”

Our ultimate freedom comes from Christ alone.

God gives each of us a free will to accept or deny His gift of salvation.  But the Bible warns us about hell.  It’s a real place where real people end up when they deny the gift of salvation.  Salvation is a choice. Salvation begins with acknowledgment of our sin and a need for a Savior, asking for forgiveness, and choosing to follow Him daily.
