Dwell on These Things

I’ve been blessed over the last five weeks to join together with a group of women to study and memorize scripture verses. It’s been such a great experience to go in depth with each verse we’ve memorized learning what that verse is saying, applying it to our lives and memorizing it together. It’s also been great to get to know women on a deeper level through our time together and point one another back to Jesus.

So far we memorized three verses and are currently working on our fourth. By the end of the study we will have memorized six verses!

These are the three we’ve memorized so far:

“Rejoice in the Lord always, I will say it again, Rejoice.” Philippians 4:4

“Let your gentleness be evident to all, the Lord is near.” Philippians 4:5

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

This week we’re working on Philippians 4:7

“And the peace of God which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your mind in Christ Jesus.”

Do you memorize scripture? Many of us at the beginning of this study said we were doubtful that we could accomplish such a task, but have found that it is indeed possible!

It’s not just the method we’re using, it’s being in community with one another. It’s coming along side our sisters in Christ and sharing the experience, the accountability and support for each other.

If you’re not memorizing scripture, I challenge you to take that leap. Find someone to do it with. If you’re looking for a good method, we’re using the “Dwell on These Things” study by sisters Natalie Abbott and Vera Schmitz. I believe you can ask anyone participating in this study and they would encourage you to give it a go!

If you’re going at your walk with Jesus alone, I beg you to stop! Get yourself involved in a Sunday School class, a small group, or sign up for one of the Bible Studies that are offered. Commit to participate in an event at church, there are always many to choose from! Make a new friend who is likeminded and also pursuing a relationship with Christ. I dare say there are women right inside New Life Baptist Church that would love to connect with you!

Because of Jesus,
